When I opened the first calisthenics gym in Los Angeles in 2015, my goal was clear: transform people’s lives through calisthenics and a holistic approach to wellness.
I’ve always believed that our body is our best gym and that we should strive to become “the only machine” we ever need.
That mission hasn’t changed, even as the gym itself has evolved.
And one of my earliest clients, Adrian, is proof of what’s possible when you fully embrace calisthenics for the long haul.
He can now tackle a hard 5 pull ups/10 push ups 20 minute EMOM training like a walk in the park.
Adrian walked into Street Workout Academy, in 2015, while in his mid-20s, ready for a challenge. He trusted the process, trained hard, and showed up consistently for two and a half years.
We focused on building his strength, endurance, and flexibility.
From improving his pull-ups to achieving his first handstand, Adrian’s progress was impressive and consistent. He got leaner, faster, and stronger. Together, we laid the foundation for a fitness lifestyle built to last.
Then, in 2017, I had to close the gym. But just because the doors closed didn’t mean Adrian’s journey was over.
My aim as a coach has always been to help clients become their own teachers, capable of guiding themselves and others in the future.
For Adrian, that vision became a reality, one that continues to this day.
Adrian’s story didn’t stop with the gym’s closure. He kept the principles and techniques he learned, integrating them into his life.
Now, in his mid-30s, with a busy career and two kids, Adrian is in the best shape of his life.
Where others might use family or career as an excuse to slack off, he’s stayed active and focused on his fitness goals.
He made calisthenics a non-negotiable part of his life, training consistently for 10 years.
With a variety of angles, grips, and variations, he keeps each session fresh and challenging.
Some days he has a full hour to train; other days, it’s just 10 minutes. But every single day, he commits.
No matter what life throws his way, he finds the time, staying consistent and pushing himself forward.
Today, Adrian isn’t just a dedicated athlete; he’s become a coach to his friends, family, and even his young son.
Weekends find him at the park, working out with friends and family, inspiring others with his dedication.
He’s become the example, the coach, showing everyone around him what’s possible with consistency and discipline.
Watching him now, guiding others with the same principles he learned years ago, is deeply fulfilling as a coach.
This is why I do what I do.
One of Adrian’s recent challenges was the EMOM (Every Minute on the Minute) workout, where he completed 5 pull-ups and 10 push-ups every minute for 20 minutes.
That’s a total of 100 pull-ups and 200 push-ups in one session—a serious test of strength and endurance, showing just how far he’s come.
Adrian’s story is proof that true fitness isn’t about a quick fix or a temporary program, it’s about creating a lifestyle that you stick with for the long run. This is why calisthenics is so powerful.
It’s adaptable to any level, it requires no gym, and it can grow with you as you progress. Whether you’re just starting out or have years under your belt, calisthenics will challenge and reward you every step of the way.
So, if you’re ready to become your own best “machine,” dive into a calisthenics course that focuses on building strength, endurance, and self-reliance.
Make the decision today to get started, commit to consistency, and watch how it changes not only your body but your entire outlook on fitness.
Be like Adrian: push forward, stay active, and make calisthenics a part of your everyday life.
Whether you’re working out for 10 minutes or an hour, the key is to stay committed. There’s no better time to start than now.
